General information

The competition is being managed by Beeatoona, a Lebanese NGO that has received a grant from the Middle East Partnership Imitative (MEPI) to raise awareness for recycling household batteries. The same project will also be implemented in Tunisia and Jordan. Questions about the competition can be addressed to following email address: info@beeatoona.org


Competition Rules

The “For a Better Environment” school competition focuses on raising awareness about battery recycling.


The competition is open to 50 Lebanese schools that have been selected for participation. The competition encourages individuals or teams of 3 to 5 students between 11 and 14 years of age to submit entries in the form of research projects about the importance of battery recycling. Each student and/or student team must be coordinated by a representative teacher from each school.

 

Competition theme and entry format

The competition theme is "For a Better Environment". A competition entry should result from individual or teamwork and should consist of:

  • A research project: This must be presented in a creative and interesting way. It must have the aim of raising awareness on environmental health risks associated with the disposal of batteries. It must also present ways for improving the management and protection of ecosystems.
  • Presentation (play or demonstration): This can be a visual composition such as a Power Point presentation, a video clip, a short movie, a photo-montage (a group of photos) or a poster. It should be in the mother tongue of the students. The visual composition file should not exceed 15 MB.

Eligibility

All Lebanese schools whether public or private can take part in the competition. The targeted grade levels are: 6, 7, 8, and 9. The entrants must be aged between 11 to 14 years old. There is a limit to the number of entries that may be sent by a school:

  • Each school can present one final project per grade level.
  • Each school can participate by a minimum number of one project and a maximum number of four projects.

Competition deadline

The competition deadline is Tuesday January 20, 2009

 

Legal issues and Disqualification of entries
  • Beeatoona reserves the right to adapt the rules and awards at any time.
  • Any notifications on possible changes will be published on the competition website and will apply from the publication date.
  • Entries may not contain statements, facts, information or quotation that may denigrate or harm any person or group of people.
  • Beeatoona may decide to disqualify an entry if it has not been submitted in time, partly or as a whole.
  • All entries are the property of Beeatoona.
  • Entrants must provide the following details when presenting their final project: name, school, mail and email address of the school
  • Entrants must supply full details as required above, and comply with all rules to be eligible for the prizes. No responsibility is accepted for ineligible entries or entries made fraudulently.
  • Beeatoona reserves the right to cancel the quiz at any stage, if deemed necessary in their opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of their control. to make modification
  • Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by them when entering the competition.
  • Beeatoona will not pass on your personal details to any other organisation without your permission except for the purposes of running the competition which you have entered.
